1996 and 1997

  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) project is born as an initiative of Gian Enrico Mantegazza, President of the Indústria Química e Farmacêutica Schering-Plough; the initiative’s mission, focused on the southern side of the city of São Paulo, is to work for a healthier country, through actions in communities in situations of social vulnerability.
  • The first Strategic Alliance to build content for the modules is established with the Instituto de Medicina Integral de Pernambuco (IMIP).
  • The Fundação Abrinq, pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente suggests institutions for the “Nossas Crianças” (“Our Children”) project, which starts with 20 volunteers in nine institutions, benefiting 600 families; the program is tailored for the mothers and employees of the institutions.

1998 and 1999

  • Beginning of partnerships to multiply knowledge. The staff of the Criança é Vida (Child is Life) project trains employees and volunteers of other organizations like Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (Einstein Community project, in the Paraisópolis neighborhood), Cruzada Pró-Infância (“ProChildhood Crusade”) (with nine institutions) and 14 institutions affiliated with the Fundação Abrinq pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente.
  • Partnership with the Escola Viva for educational support in the development of a new project directed at children: “Criança é Vida Crianças” (“Child is Life Children”), directed at the 5-to-6-year-old age group.

2000 and 2001

  • Other partnerships to multiply the “Criança é Vida Adultos” (“Child is Life Adults”) are established with Hospital Sírio-Libanês, CEPAC (Barueri) and Cooperapic.
  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) CD is launched, with 17 children’s educational songs that help promote retention of concepts important to the project in a fun way. Toquinho and Jair de Oliveira are among the artists who give up their rights for the work.
  • The Institute wins the ECO Award from the American Chamber of Commerce, in the Health category, and the Empresa Cidadão Voluntário Award, promoted by the Instituto Kanitz.

2002

  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) project becomes the Instituto Criança é Vida (Child is Life Institute), a non-profit and non-governmental organization.
  • The Instituto Criança é Vida (Child is Life Institute) receives the Scudo in Argento Award from the Istituto Scudo di San Martino, in Florence, Italy.

2003

  • Beginning of the projects dubbed “Criança é Vida Bebês” (“Child is Life Babies”) and “O Prato Nosso de Cada Dia” (“Give us Today our Daily Dish”).
  • Partnership with the Eli Lilly do Brasil in a volunteer program.
  • The Institute receives the Racine Award.

2004

  • The Instituto Criança é Vida (Child is Life Institute) projects reach 91 institutions and 169 work fronts in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
  • The Instituto Criança é Vida (Child is Life Institute) are certified by the Conselho Municipal dos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente da Prefeitura de São Paulo (CMDCA).
  • The Instituto Criança é Vida (Child is Life Institute) is certified by the Ministério da Justiça as an OSCIP (Civil Society Organization of Public Interest).
  • The Lupa de Ouro Award, in the Social Responsibility Category, is awarded to the Institute by the Grupemef.

2005

  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute is expanded and elects its Executive Board, made up of professionals of different companies.
  • Beginning of a partnership with the Rede Sementeira of Santos, with 16 institutions, for the implementation of the following projects: “Criança é Vida Bebês” (“Child is Life Babies,”) “Criança é Vida Crianças de 5 a 6 anos” (“Child is Life Children from 5 to 6 years old”) and “Criança é Vida Adultos” (“Child is Life Adults).”
  • Beginning of a Strategic Alliance with the Prosex – Projeto Sexualidade of the Psychiatry Institute of the Medical School of the University of São Paulo (FM-USP), for the development of a sex education project for children.

2006

  • Commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of the Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute, with 22,856 people directly assisted, an increase of over 40%.
  • Unimed Seguros becomes a multiplying partner, together with Central Nacional Unimed.
  • An exchange program is established with the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, through which Master’s degree students spend 10 weeks to developing activities in the Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute.

2007

  • Beginning of a partnership with the Instituto da Criança of the Medical School of the University of São Paulo (FM-USP) for endorsement of the “Afeto e Proteção” (“Affection and Protection”) project, focused on the prevention of violence against children.
  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute acquires its headquarters in the Chácara Santo Antônio neighborhood.
  • An exhibition is held on the work of the Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute, featuring photographs taken by renowned photographers, at the restaurant of the MAM (Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo).
  • Beginning of multiplication of the “Tempo de Descobrir” (“Time of Discovery”) project for sex education of children in the 7-to-9-year-old age group.

2008

  • Fifty-seven institutions implement the “Tempo de Descobrir” (“Time of Discovery”) project for sex education of children in the 7-to-9-year-old age group.
  • Development of the new “Criança é Vida Afeto e Proteção” (“Child is Life Affection and Protection”) project, with six Instructional Units.

2009

  • Election of the new Advisory Committee of the Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute, made up of 30 renowned professionals in different areas, such as communication, health and the third sector.
  • Formalization of a Strategic Alliance with ICr – Instituto da Criança of the Clínicas Hospital of University of São Paulo Medical School (FM-USP), for endorsement of “Criança é Vida Afeto e Proteção” (“Child is Life Affection and Protection”) project content.
  • The “Criança é Vida Crianças” (“Child is Life Children”) project adapted for 3-to-4-year-old children is multiplied for 40 institutions, reaching 3,105 children.

2010

  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute offers its sex education projects directly to children of communities assisted by the Associação Cairuçu in Paraty, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
  • Development and execution of the “Criança é Vida Viver Bem” (“Child is Life Living Well”) project, designed for 7-to-9-year-old children and for their parents; the project is focused on preventing drug use in a subtle and assertive way.
  • Application of the “Criança é Vida Afeto e Proteção” (“Child is Life Affection and Protection”) pilot project in the “A Nossa Casa da Criança” (“Our Children’s House”) institution in São Paulo.

2011

  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute completes 15 years with growth of 80% in the number of institutions assisted and 59% in the number of work fronts.
  • New partnerships are established with the Hedging-Griffo and the Instituto Mosaic.
  • Beginning of a maintaining partnership with the Associação Beneficente Alzira Denise Hertzog da Silva (ABADHS).
  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute expands its activities geographically, reaching the cities of São Lourenço da Mata, in the state of Pernambuco, and Campinas and Guarulhos, in the state of São Paulo.
  • A multiplying partnership is established with the Instituto Mosaic for public schools in Paranaguá, in the state of Paraná.

2012

  • The Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute develops the “Criança é Vida Crescer com Valores” (“Child is Life Growing Up with Values”) project
  • Development of “Criança é Vida Gestação Saudável” (“Child is Life Healthy Pregnancy”), with six instructional units planned for pregnant women
  • A partnership with the Banco Votorantim is established to support multiplication of Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute projects.
  • A multiplying partnership is established with the Instituto Mosaic for public schools in Candeias, in the state of Bahia.

2013

  • Finance Committee Election.
  • A partnership is established with Carrefour for development of a volunteer project for its São Paulo office employees.
  • Radio broadcasting of 20 educational spots recorded by singer Jair de Oliveira, in the city of São Paulo.
  • A multiplying partnership is established with the Instituto Mosaic for public schools in Sorriso, in the state of Mato Grosso, and Rio Verde, in the state of Goiás.
  • A new Strategic Alliance is born, this time with Hospital Sírio-Libanês, for endorsement of the “Gestação Saudável” (“Healthy Pregnancy”) project.
  • Launch of the Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute – Educando para a Saúde (Educating for Health) 1996 to 2013 book.

2014

  • The Strategic Alliance contract with the Instituto da Criança of the Medical School of the University of São Paulo is renewed.
  • A Strategic Alliance is established with the Companhia das Letrinhas publishing house for development of the “Crescer com Valores” (“Growing Up with Values”) project.
  • Development of the Campanha de Incentivo à Amamentação (Breast-Feeding Incentive Campaign), through the Maintaining Partnership with MSD, for implementation in the city of São Lourenço da Mata, in the state of Pernambuco.
  • A “Eu Conheço o Valor dos Alimentos” (“I Know the Value of Food”) Cultural Drawing Contest is held for children assisted by the MSD volunteer program in commemoration of Children’s Day.
  • A partnership is established with the Eólica Faísa company for implementation of the “Viver Bem” (“Living Well”) project in municipal schools of Trairi, in the state of Ceará.
  • An operating partnership is established with Casa Ronald McDonald , which now houses Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute in Rio de Janeiro.

2015

  • Launch of a new interactive website and implementation of a new Facebook strategy;
  • Distribution of bookmarks with the Institute’s website and Facebook address to educators, encouraging participation;
  • Filming of a video for the website with children’s and educator testimonials on the projects;
  • A  Campanha de Cobertores (Blanket Campaign) and Mutirão de Voluntariado (Volunteer Collective Effort) is held for the MSD company;
  • 79 MSD Volunteers reached 403 children by teaching instructional units of the Viver Bem (“Living Well”) project.
  • Large-scale multiplication of the Crescer com Valores (“Growing Up with Values”) project for 10-to-12-year-old children;
  • Extension of the age group to 13 to 15 years of age for multiplication of Criança é Vida (Child is Life) Institute projects;
  • Change of logo to include “Educação em Saúde – Criança e Adolescentes” (Education for Health – Children and Adolescents);
  • Preparation and application of the new “Questões de Adolescência” (“Issues of Adolescence”) Sex Education pilot project for the 13-to-15-year-old age group.

2016

  • Was the first organization to comply with 100% of the GIFE Transparency Panel indicators;
  • Website in English;
  • Implementation of the “Educating for Health: I make the difference” Recognition Campaign to recognize educators participating in our projects;
  • 93 volunteers presented two certification units of the Growing Up with Values – Understand and build project – to 670 children from 15 institutions on the South Side of São Paulo;
  • Two new videos on the Children and Growing Up with Values – Understand and build projects;
  • Large-scale multiplication of the new Sex Education – Issues of adolescence project, for the 13-to-15-year-old age group;
  • Volunteer Multi-Aid Group Effort for the MSD company in the Ana Maria Child and Adolescent Center (CCA), on the South Side of São Paulo;
  • Preparation and presentation of the new pilot project called Financial Health – Learning to manage and enjoy my money – for 7-to-9-year-old children;

2017

2018

  • A group of 39 volunteers from MSD Company presented two instructional units of the Growing Up with Values – Understand and build project – to 357 children from 7 institutions on the south side of São Paulo, in addition to a health action entitled “I take care of my health,” in which 29 volunteers participated, benefiting 130 children from 7 to 9 years of age.
  • A great impact with the presentation of the Sex Education – Time of discovery project in the city of Glória do Goitá, in the interior of Pernambuco: Teachers were shocked with the number of sexual abuse cases they discovered and, along with other schools, churches, health units, the Guardianship Council and the Education Secretariat, they organized a march in the town to make the community aware.
  • Analysis of the Institute’s physical space and the rent of half a floor to house all material for projects, as well as a space for putting together and preparing material for certification courses.
  • Certification, by the Doar Institute, with the A Concept – Doar Seal of Management and Transparency Standards.
  • Partnership with the Dominique Geiger Institute for certification courses of teachers from two schools in Trancoso, in Bahia, to multiply the Growing Up with Values and Living Well projects for about 1,000 children.
  • Volunteer Combined Group Effort for the MSD company – at the São João Vianney Center for Children and Adolescents (CCA) in Campinas on June 30, and in São Paulo, at two different times: on July 27, at the Ana Maria CCA and on November 30 at the Casa da Criança e do Adolescente CCA.
  • Presentation of the Financial Health pilot project for 10 to 12 years old children, in an Institution at Cidade Ademar neighborhood, São Paulo, in November and beginning of December.
  • Multidisciplinary group meetings for the preparation of new cycles of the Living Well project for 10 to 12 and 13 to 15 years of age – the probability of a Strategic Alliance for these new cycles is being evaluated.
  • Filming of two new videos: Affection and Protection project and of the projects presented in Trancoso, in Bahia, in partnership with the Dominique Geiger Institute (Growing Up with Values – Understand and build and Living Well).
  • Renewal of Multiplying Partnership with the Dominique Geiger Institute, for certification courses for local school teachers in Trancoso, in Bahia, in the Child is Life Sex Education – Time of discovery project, in 2019.

2019

  • Volunteer Combined Group Effort for the MSD company at São João Vianney Center for Children and Adolescents (CCA) in Campinas with 39 volunteers on June 29, and in São Paulo, at Casa da Criança e do Adolescente CCA with 44 volunteers on October 11.
  • Donation of blankets, in partnetship with MSD Company, for 393 children from 2 institutions, and Christmas gift bags for 97 children from Cáritas Diocesana of Campo Limpo – Casa da Criança e do Adolescente CCA.
  • Partnership with the Dominique Geiger Institute for certification courses for local school teachers in Trancoso, in Bahia, in the Child is Life Sex Education – Time of discovery project for more than 1100 children.
  • Presentation of the Growing up with Values pilot project for 13 to 15 years old adolescents, in an Institution at Cidade Ademar neighborhood, São Paulo, in the months of October and November.
  • Instituto Criança é Vida (Child is Life Institute) has now a profile on Linkedin.
  • Renewal of the certification by the Doar Institute, with the A Concept – Doar Seal of Management and Transparency Standards.
